About O’Briens Montessori Centre

Natasha O’Brien is the founder of O’Briens Montessori Centre in Modbury North, bringing over 20 years of experience in the early childhood education industry, having worked in the sector since 2006.

With a strong commitment to high-quality early learning, Natasha is dedicated to creating environments where children are respected as capable, curious individuals. Inspired by the Montessori philosophy of Dr Maria Montessori, she has built O’Briens Montessori Centre around the belief that children learn best through independence, hands-on exploration, and meaningful experiences.

Since establishing the service, Natasha has focused on providing a calm, nurturing environment that supports each child’s development across academic, social, and emotional areas. Her leadership is centred on strong relationships with families, dedicated educators, and a shared commitment to supporting children during their most important early years.

Natasha continues to guide O’Briens Montessori Centre with a clear vision: to give every child the foundation, confidence, and love of learning needed for a successful transition to school and beyond.

What Your Child Experiences Here

  • At O’Brien’s Montessori Centre, children are welcomed into a calm and purposeful environment each day.

    • Make independent choices in their learning

    • Develop practical life skills through real activities

    • Build focus, concentration, and confidence

    • Learn at their own pace in a prepared environment

  • A Calm and Confident Start to the Day

Children begin their day by settling into the classroom at their own pace. They are greeted by familiar educators and gently transition into the morning routine without pressure or rush.

This creates a sense of security and helps children feel emotionally ready to learn and engage.

  • Choosing Their Own Learning

Throughout the morning, children independently choose from a range of carefully prepared Montessori materials.

    They may:

    • Work with practical life activities such as pouring, scooping, cleaning, or dressing frames

    • Explore early numeracy through hands-on materials

    • Engage with early literacy activities in a natural, self-paced way

    • Develop concentration through sensorial learning experiences

This freedom of choice builds confidence, independence, and responsibility.

  • Learning Through Real-Life Experiences

Children are not just playing — they are learning through meaningful, real-world activities.

    They are encouraged to:

    • Take care of their environment

    • Develop independence in everyday tasks

    • Build coordination and fine motor skills

    • Solve problems through exploration and repetition

These experiences help children develop skills that extend far beyond early childhood.

  • Movement, Exploration, and Outdoor Learning

Outdoor time is an important part of each child’s day.

    Children engage in:

    • Physical movement and gross motor development

    • Nature-based exploration and discovery

    • Social interaction with peers in a relaxed environment

    • Free and structured outdoor activities

This supports both physical development and emotional regulation.

  • Assorted sliced fruits including pineapple, lemon, kiwi, cantaloupe, watermelon, and oranges on a wooden serving board.

    Calm Mealtimes and Social Learning

Mealtimes are peaceful, structured, and social experiences.

    Children are encouraged to:

    • Develop independence in eating and self-care

    • Practice manners and social awareness

    • Engage in calm conversation with peers and educators

This reinforces respect, routine, and community feeling.

  • Rest, Reflection, and Individual Needs

Younger children are supported with rest periods in a calm, safe environment, while older children may engage in quiet, independent activities.

Every child’s individual needs are respected and supported throughout the day.
